Super Computers

Supercomputers are very expensive and are employed for specialized applications that require immense amounts of mathematical calculations. For example, weather forecasting requires a supercomputer. Other uses of supercomputers include animated graphics, fluid dynamic calculations, nuclear energy research, and petroleum exploration.
The chief difference between a supercomputer and a mainframe is that a supercomputer channels all its power into executing a few programs as fast as possible, whereas a mainframe uses its power to execute many programs concurrently.

Its characterstics depends on your usage of the term supercomputer, generally speaking it

means a computer (or multiple linked computers) intended on computing massive amounts of

data for projects like mapping the human genome and other science stuff of that scale.

Advantages: Speed, amount of things that can run at once without it slowing down, better graphics capabilities for gaming and graphics designing, and smoother performance.

Disadvantages: Power usage, heat, cost and in the case of overclocked computers heat that leads to damage to the components which in turn will raise the cost through replacement parts. In the case of 64 bit processors, (which can provide better processing capabilities) there can be the downside of compatibility issues for some software.

If you want a really, really fast computer, there are all kind of ways to build the hardware architecture, but one thing that almost all of them have in common is that they run Linux. The top spot now appears to belong to the Tianhe-1A , which means "Milky Way," at a research center at the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) in Tianjin, China.

How much faster?
NUDT claims the machine is 1.4 times faster than Cray XT5 Jaguar. NUDT claims that the computer's peak performance can hit 1.206 petaflops and jogs along at 563.1 teraflops. To do this, the Tianhe-1A system covers a square kilometer, weights in at 155-tons and uses 14,336 Intel Xeon CPUs and 7,168 Nvidia Tesla GPUs.
The software behind it?
Linux of course. Linux has long been the operating system of choice for the world's fastest computers. While NUDT hasn't said which specific Linux they used, I strongly suspect it's a high-speed optimized version of China's Red Flag Software's Red Flag Linux.
It's not just supercomputers that have become Linux fans. Other high-speed, no-room-for-failure systems have moved to Linux. Many of the world's stock exchanges, where every millisecond counts, have either already switched to Linux or are planning on it.
The bottom line: when speed and reliability is what you have to have, Linux is the operating system you have to use.

Hidden Treasure Worth Billions

Officials announced that a treasure containing sacks of diamonds and gold coins as well as golden idols, jewellry and other riches has been discovered in the secret vaults of Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, in the southwestern state of Kerala, India. Estimates of its worth have been rising and it is now thought to be worth $20 billion.
God’s wealth belongs to the people, not to the king. It’s meaningless to say that it belongs to Hindus or any particular religious community
The Hindu temple was built in the 16th century by the kings of the then Kingdom of Travancore to serve as a royal chapel for the rulers of Travancore. The six vaults containing the treasure have been undisturbed for over a century. Assessment of the treasure began on June 27 after a lawyer concerned about the security of the treasure petitioned India's Supreme Court, which then appointed a seven-member panel of experts to invent of the treasure. The panel does not have the power to determine to whom the treasure will belong. Estimates of the treasure's worth are rising, provoking a heated debate as to how the treasure will be used in a country that has 450 million poverty-stricken people.

The CM of KeralaOommen Chandy, announced that the treasure would remain with the temple, and security matters would be decided in consultation with the Travancore Royal Family, the temple management, and the temple priest.
"The gold was offered to the lord. It is the property of the temple. The government will protect the wealth at the temple," Oommen Chandy said. Meanwhile, a large number of armed police have been deployed around the temple to protect the treasure.
Among the dissenters is eminent jurist V R Krishna Iyer, who said the treasure should be put in a national trust for the peoples' benefit. "God’s wealth belongs to the people, not to the king. It’s meaningless to say that it belongs to Hindus or any particular religious community," said Iyer. "A mechanism should be constructed to ensure that the benefits of it should reach the poor and the needy and not the rich."
Five of the six vaults of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple have been inventoried.
Also information to the press revealed that the treasure, including a golden idol of Mahavishnu and a golden 'anki', were found in one of the vaults, estimated to weigh 30 kilograms, along with precious stones, silver, two coconut shells of pure gold and another golden idol as well as other jewels and valuable coins. The committee hopes to find more treasure when the sixth and final vault is opened. This vault is thought to contain the bulk of the wealth.
Keralan officials in a preliminary estimate said that the treasure was worth over $11.2 billion; those estimates have now risen to $20 billion. Historians say that the temple's location on a site through which passed lucrative trade routes support the higher evaluations.
"Traders, who used to come from other parts of the country and abroad for buying spices and other commodities, used to make handsome offerings to the deity for not only his blessings but also to please the then rulers.

Best Way for doing Push Ups- Effective Results

The best way to do push ups, is to do them in a manner that will help you build shoulder and triceps muscles, but that won’t hurt your body. There are several ways to do correct push ups based on fitness level. If you can’t do a single floor push up, you may not even want to begin by lying on the floor, but instead might try knee, vertical or incline push ups instead to build strength.

The ground push up is done in the following manner:

    1. Lie on the floor.
    2. Flex the feet so the toes are on the floor, pointing toward your upper body.
    3. Place hands, palms down, with palms at chest level, and fingertips at shoulder level.
    4. Keep hands close into the body
    5. Have your head in an upright position so you are looking forward, not down at the floor.
    6. Slowly push up with the strength of the arms, keeping the body straight.
    7. Hold the upright position for a few seconds.
    8. Slowly lower yourself to the ground.

Benefits of Push-ups. Push-ups are a closed kinetic chain exercise. Unlike the Bench Press, your hands are fixed while your body moves through space.
  • Build Muscle. Just like Pull-ups & Dips, Push-ups force you to lift your own body-weight. Push-ups work your chest, shoulders, triceps & core.
  • Shoulder Health. Push-ups improve shoulder health by strengthening your serratus anterior. They also teach you to Bench Press correctly.
  • Versatile. You can do Push-ups anywhere, anytime. Harder Push-up variations keep things challenging for constant progress

Who Was Santa Claus ?

As Christmas comes closer, children everywhere are eagerly awaiting their Christmas gifts.  Yet “Santa Claus” comes from the Dutch “Sinter Klass,” which in turn means “St. Nicholas.”
Saint Nicholas, whose feast day is December 6, lived from 280-343. He was a priest and later the Bishop of Myra, in modern Turkey.
The legends say that Nicholas was a very holy child, some going so far as to say that he refused his mother's milk on Fridays to keep the Church discipline of abstinence. Apparently he came from a rich family and was known for his generosity. He gave gifts to the peasants of Myra, trying to do so in secret by night, out of humility.
www.life-on-roll.blogspot.com
It seems a poor man had no money to provide a dowry for his three daughters. Bishop Nicholas climbed onto the roof of the house and dropped three bags of gold down the chimney. These landed in the socks that were hanging by the fire to dry, explaining today's tradition of Christmas stockings. The three bags of gold, incidentally are the origin of the pawnbrokers' symbol of three golden balls, as St. Nicholas is also their patron saint.
While much of the foregoing is undoubtedly legendary, or at least embellished by the ages, it is a fact that in 303, the Roman Emporer Diocletian demanded that all the citizens of the empire worship him as a god. This order applied to the territories of Asia Minor as well. Many Christians were imprisoned or killed for their refusal to worship the emporer. When he too refused to submit, the Bishop was arrested and held in a small cell for more than 5 years.
In 313, Constantine came to power and Nicholas was released. Christianity was no longer oppressed, and Nicholas returned to serve Myra as Bishop. He remained in that post until his death, on December 6, 343.
His fame for sanctity spread rapidly, with the first churches in his name being built around 450. By 800, he was recognized as a saint in the Eastern Church, and by 1200, St. Nicholas' Day was celebrated in Paris. By the 1400s, St. Nicholas was the most popular religious figure, apart from Jesus and Mary, with more than 2,000 chapels built in his honor.
The Origin of Santa When Dutch settlers came to New Amsterdam in the 1500s, they brought with them their tradition of St. Nicholas (“Sinter Klass”), and this tradition spread more generally, the name being converted in the process to Santa Claus.
The image of St. Nicholas gradually changed to that “right jolly old elf” described by Clement Clarke Moore in his “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” better known as “ `Twas the Night Before Christmas.” He traded in his mitre and crozier to dress “all in fur, from his head to his foot.” Still, behind the figure most embodying the commercial nature of Christmas in the minds of the public, we find a humble and saintly Bishop, and a clear Christian message for our times: the need for generosity both towards our neighbors, and towards God.

Don 2 : Rate It

Rating- 6/10
In terms of content and treatment, how much further has Farhan Akhtar taken the action flick? There's no easy answer to that. Needless to say Farhan’s creativity and talent takes the film to the next level. He completely justifies himself as a director. But, the film's outstanding topographical and technical detailing hampers the audiences' journey towards the characters.

Shahrukh Khan is amazingly stylish in the role of Don. He proves that he can carry a role that is immortalized by Amitabh with élan. SRK indeed carries the entire film on his shoulders.
Priyanka Chopra as Roma who is Don’s Junglee Billi scores well. This girl is extremely confident. Lara Dutta as Ayesha ads glamour and charm to the film. Kunal Kapoor as Sameer Ali apparently plays an admirer of Don. He meets him in Berlin. He does a decent job. Boman Irani as Vardhaanis who is in the journey of taking revenge form Don is absolutely justified.

Story:
Shah Rukh Khan as Don is the most elusive, cunning, wily, astute, manipulative, unforgiving crime world who returns with a new set of enemies and greater ambition.

Having conquered the Asian underworld, Don (Shahrukh Khan) has now set his sight on European domination. In his way are the
bosses of the existing European underworld and all law enforcement agencies.

The action shifts from Kuala Lumpur to Berlin, as Don must avoid assassination or arrest, whichever comes first in order for his plan to succeed.

He is the worst nightmare for his enemies. He knows their deepest secrets and fears, and knows when to let them live and when to pull the trigger. Shah Rukh Khan as Don is back with a vengeance in Don 2.

Remember how Don pulled the rug from under everyone’s feet by feigning his own death and pretending as a simpleton impost ring as the Don in the 2006. The story now moves forward. Having fled from right under the nose of the cops, Don has now set his eyes on greener pastures.

The film begins in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and from there the action shifts to Germany. Incidentally, Don 2 is the first film to be shot in Germany.

Conclusion:

You can watch this film and enjoy it as long as you don't compare it with its original version. The twists towards climax would add extra zing to the contemporary screenplay. On the whole, the new Don 2 works!

Road To Success

Mind is a goal seeking organism..Once you set a goal it starts working day and night to achieve it.However you must remember that it wants clarity and accuracy about your goal with a proper time frame. Most of the time, people talk of goals but they are not very clear about them.
There is a vast difference between having a wish to get something and a burning desire to achieve that. For this you should invest sufficient time to be clear about why you want to achieve the goal. Then you should dream of it,not while sleeping but eith your eyes open and cherish in your heart.Make it your inner calling and let your goal be North pole star of your life.
History is witness to this truth that only dreamers and believers have been achievers like empire builders, geographical discoveries, scientists, investors, etc.Every human being with a healthy mind has unlimited power to succeed and to reach any height in life.Everyone is unique creation of God with some unique sets of potentials to realize the purpose of life and achieve goals.
Your subconscious mind is all powerfull to make you a winner.I feel,if you can master the art of feeding your subconscious mind with thoughts of being definite about your goal and visualize yourself as a winner, you can remove all hurdles between you and your goal.

Life on a FootPath

As we live in a country, which was once called a golden sparrow, we expect a high status living, better facilities, royal food and all the jobs done without working hard for anything. But unfortunately it is not the scenario of all but few.Presently we are not the products golden sparrow anymore but still our country is on the verge of developed country, but lets think for a while are we really ready to be developed. What exactly means about the developed country is that its citizens should be developed in all respects.we can't call it developed on account of few under whose limelight thousands are hidden to their fate.
What I am talking about is the people ,thousands of people whom we look at or meet everyday for some reason-the poor bad luckers who have born in family of poor and are burdened to live the same life as their ancestors,no improvement at all.Seriously this is not the funny topic, its the life history of a person who even spends his nights at FootPath. For a while lets get to know about the life os such person, that person borns in a family of poor who already living on footpaths or a small cottages along roadside. He lives in a pity condition near the garbage dumps and he spend all his childhood under such challenging environment.Even before reaching the age of adult,he has to burden himself with the family responsibilities i.e to earn a living instead of playing with inmates. What profession they choose doesn't matter to them, but ehat they earns from that is a lot.Out of these people some go for begging, some to carry garbages, works in small shops, dhabas and face the brutuality of we people.
We never can understand what their life goes from and what they are experiencing, their pain is unshared and their entire life just pass on from roads to the Footpath. In this increasing prices of every commodity, they have nothing to eat, difficult to earn even a single meal a day.you might have heard Govt. giving several pay increments to people but these people are never incremented, they are still at a position where they were 20 years before. So what means is that their upliftment is required now, otherwise more and more persons will be under BPL and developed country in real terms is very far.Think upon!

Burj Dubai--A Masterpiece

Burj Khalifa has been designed to be the centrepiece of a large-scale, mixed-use development that would include 30,000 homes, nine hotels such asThe Address Downtown Dubai, 3 hectares (7.4 acres) of parkland, at least 19 residential towers, the Dubai Mall, and the 12-hectare (30-acre) man-made Burj Khalifa Lake.
The design of Burj Khalifa is derived from patterning systems embodied in Islamic architecture. According to the structural engineer, Bill Baker of SOM, the building's design incorporates cultural and historical elements particular to the region. The Y-shaped plan is ideal for residential and hotel usage, with the wings allowing maximum outward views and inward natural light

In the tradition of gala celebrations marked around iconic structures such as the Sydney Opera House, Paris Eiffel Tower and at New York Times Square, Dubai will host the Burj Khalifa New Year’s Eve Gala.

“The Burj Khalifa New Year’s Eve gala is our tribute to the celebratory spirit of Dubai, home to over 200 nationalities, and a truly global city. The celebrations will put the international spotlight on the city, and drive the destination as the must-visit place for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Also marking the first anniversary of Burj Khalifa, which soars high at 828 metres (2,716.5 ft), the New Year’s Eve Gala has a mystique theme that encompasses the entire Downtown Dubai community, the 500-acre mega development by Emaar.
The main highlight of the celebrations will be a colourful countdown followed by a laser-fireworks-lights spectacle. Flagging off the celebrations is a fire-water performance of The Dubai Fountain, the world’s tallest performing fountain overlooking Burj Khalifa.
The Dubai Fountain will sway to the rhythm of world music, with fire flames and water jets in harmonious flutter, creating a spellbinding effect on viewers. As the countdown for the New Year begins, the Downtown Dubai community will be enveloped with lights and lasers effects.
Large television panels will display the countdown, and the New Year will be ushered in with a dazzling fireworks-laser-lights display atop Burj Khalifa – marking it as the world’s highest fireworks celebration for the New Year.
Music, specially composed for the event, will add to the surreal ambience, offering spectators a never-before-experienced New Year’s Eve gala.

The Burj Khalifa New Year’s Eve gala is open for the public, who can enjoy the celebrations from Burj Park, an island overlooking Burj Khalifa, and set on the Burj Lake. They can also view the sparkling extravaganza from the Waterfront Promenade lining the adjacent Dubai Mall.

Rupee Under Debt

Rupee has been continuously sinking past few months making a new historic value each day.Today the Rupee has fallen to 54 a dollar which is a thing of worry for us.It has been down to 18% down now and is still moving downwards.

If we check out the world's currencies all have done well like dollar has risen to 3.5%, yen to 1.2%, but the Rupee has all down to worst in a decade. It has lost 7.1% over the last few months. The outflow of capital from the market is the major reason behind this huge depreciation of Rupee. While inflation has given high flights to dollar. Also the liquidity in European markets has been a secondary reason to worries of Rupee.

Poor investments and the lose of confidence in Asian markets has stopped the foreign aid to liquify these markets and thus Rupee got its reward. In countries like India where large number of population is under BPL has to survive with lot of difficulties in next years as chances of Rupee to fall more till 56 a dollar is predicted if these things will continue. All the food supplies, electronics, crude oil which is being imported frmo foreign countries is being costlier day by day and will go on like this.Rupee has its worst year this time and this leads to problem faced by many.

Photographing Your Pet

Every owner wants to keep the playfulness and the beauty of his pet with him forever. We go to all ends to preserve the first thing it destroyed. Even wear the socks from which it ate a hole out. And of course photographing it. If you have a cute pet (and I am sure she is the most beautiful pet in the world) and a camera, then you know you have hard times ahead. Pets are difficult photographing subjects, even more than the kids to get that prefect photograph
What I recommend is to have a pet comfortable before you start clicking. The mistake I made was that I never got to the eye level of the pet before capturing a shot. This is very important as you will never get a good looking down on a pet.
Making eye contact with pets is important. Call out to them when you are ready to take the shot. With pets, expression is almost entirely in the eyes, the window to their soul.
Speed is most important. Few camera shy-pets will come to know that you are up to some thing and never give a nice pose. Others will come darting towards the camera darting towards the camera thinking it as another treat to eat.
One thing that most owners do is picture a pet in sleep or in a sit and stay command. This is very easy, but the pictures you will relish are the action shots. Getting a photo of your pet while playing, fetch, jumping to lick a family member, getting a tummy rub, inquiring what’s on the dining table or just keeping his head on the bed and asking you to play with him for a change.
Most pets give the perfect pose just before you click the camera. I have digital camera and I know I have to click dozen of picture before I get the one I really like. If you have a simple camera you may lose many film rolls before you get the photo you want to keep.

Is Your Dog Aggressive

In appropriate aggression in dogs is the most serious behaviour problem that pet owners must deal with. Aggression while infrequently a result of a medical problem, is usually caused by human mismanagement. It is largely preventable if the owner understandscanine growth periods and the factors that influence the development of aggressive behaviour.
To understand why dogs become aggressive we have to know that aggression is imprinted in the genes that they inherited from wolves. To chase and kill was their survival plan when dogs were part of a pack. Tomaintain their position in the pack, defend their territory and to date their mate they had to be aggressive.Once adopted by humans, they were bred specifically to either increase or decrease aggression, as desired by their new new master. The dog thinks of his new familyas his packand tries to build his rank. That’s where the owners come in. withoutthem helping him out the dog simply acts as he would act in the wild in order to survive, leading to inappropriate aggression.
A dogmay exibhit more than one type of aggression. These may be defensiveor induced by fear, pain, or punishment; dominance; possessiveness; territorial; intrasexual (male to male) or (female to female); predatory; or paternal. If one thinks that his\her dog is aggressive check the following symptoms:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·      <!--[endif]-->Excessive barking
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·      <!--[endif]-->Over protective about food and possessions
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·      <!--[endif]-->Fearfulness in new situation or around strangers
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·      <!--[endif]-->Severe attacks on other animals, such as cats or livestock
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·      <!--[endif]-->Attempts to mount people legs
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·      <!--[endif]-->Snapping and snarling when petted, groomed, or lifted
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·      <!--[endif]-->Frequent attempts to chase moving objects such as bicycle, cars etc
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·      <!--[endif]-->Repeated escapes from home and long periods spent roaming free
None of these symptoms should be ignored. Each of the above can predict serious aggressive behaviour. To understand aggression in dogs, one can more easily recogonise the early warning signs and avoid a serious if not life- threatening situation. In no case should  an  aggressive pet be abandoned as the pet can be dangerous for an unsuspecting owner

The Great Pyramid Mystery-Sphinx

Among the marvels of Egypt perhaps the Great Sphinx of Giza is second to none. The mysterious colossus with the head of a man and the body of a lion is not at all uncommon in Egyptian architectural adornment, but the Great Sphinx placed before the Second Pyramid (the Pyramid of Khafre) fills the observer with wonder and awe by its gigantic and monumental proportions. The location of the Great Sphinx of Giza is on the Giza Plateau, bordering the Sahara Desert, on the west bank of the Nile River, near modern-day Cairo. The Great Sphinx is known to the Arabs as Abul-hol meaning the father of terror. The Greek word "sphinx" may have derived from the Egyptian shesep-ankh, which translates to 'living image'.
There are three types of the Egyptian sphinx:
  • Androsphinx - The Androsphinx has the body of a lion and a head of a man
  • Criosphinx - The Criosphinx has the body of a lion and a head of a ram
  • Hieracosphinx - The Hieracosphinx has the body of a lion and a head of a hawk

Some of the facts are listed below:

When was the Great Sphinx of Giza built? Good question, but no one has the exact answer! The Great Sphinx of Giza is carved of rock, so it cannot be dated by the radio carbon technique. The only other method of dating the Sphinx would be by using old Egyptian texts that refer to its existence and construction. The problem is that there are no such texts, therefore, no definite facts are known. The great monument was definitely in existence in the time of Khufu (Cheops). Pharaoh Thutmose IV had a granite stele known as the Dream stele placed between the paws (A stele was a stone slab, decorated with text which served as a monument. But the sphinx probably dates back to the generations before the Pharaoh Menes who established the 1st Egyptian dynasty in the Early Dynastic Period. These people were called in the priestly chronicles "the Servants of Horus" and were the early people who settled in Egypt and who were Aryans during the Predynastic Period 5550 BC - 3050 BC.  However other scholars believe that the Great Sphinx of Giza was built during the period of the Old Kingdom of Egypt during the 3rd millennium BC. The Old Kingdom is often referred to as "the Age of the Pyramids" when the Great pyramids of Giza were built, in close proximity to the Great Sphinx.

The Riddle of the Sphinx:

There is some confusion regarding the legend of the Riddle of the Sphinx. The Riddle of the Sphinx refers to the legendary Greek creature with the body of a lion and the head of a woman. The myth surrounding the Greek Riddle of the Sphinx is therefore attributed to Greek mythology. In this story the Sphinx of Thebes asked a riddle of all travellers who passed by. If the traveller failed to solve the riddle, then the Sphynx of Thebes would kill them. The riddle of the Thebes Sphinx is:
"What goes on four legs in the morning, on two legs at noon, and on three legs in the evening?"
The answer to the riddle is:
"A man. He crawls on all fours as a baby, walks on two legs as an adult, and walks with a cane in old age."
The riddle refers to morning, noon, and night which are metaphors for the times in a man's life. The riddle was solved by Oedipus, whereupon the sphinx slew herself.
